Last Wednesday was Sisvel’s 44th birthday, so it was the perfect day to announce the creation of our new Point of Sale (POS) pool, with founder licensors Huawei, LG Electronics and Nokia – three of the biggest players in the cellular space. With incentives to join the programme as a licensor in place until mid-May, the likelihood is that further companies will be coming on board soon, so making the offer even more compelling.
POS is the perfect vertical for a pool: it is global in reach and powered by standardised cellular technology. With the enhanced capabilities it affords rapidly expanding, it is only going to get bigger. The Sisvel programme will simplify access to the SEPs that underpin the various products currently out in the market, as well as those now being developed.
Elsewhere, the ITC has launched investigations into TCL and Hisense relating to video technology patents following a complaint from InterDigital; and China has informed the WTO that it has withdrawn its worldwide anti-suit injunction policy. In an interview with IAM, meanwhile, the co-chair of the recently formed USPTO SEP Working Group explained how it is seeking to bolster US participation in standards development.
